LEXINGTON, KY April 30, 2011 - Business Solutions Organization, LLC. (BSO), a central KY based provider of health and business technology solutions, recently completed several major projects for a Lexington based health services company.

CMD Holdings, LLC (CMD), the parent company of ClubMD and CMD Health, partnered with BSO in March 2009 to provide Health IT (HIT) and Business Technology Management services. Under the terms of the partnership, BSO acted as CMD’s IT department and provided IT consulting to the trio of companies.

BSO’s expertise in technology solutions contributed to CMD’s development of Kentucky’s first health insurance organization since 1993, CMD Health. During the same period, BSO worked with CMD to develop the nation’s first fully-integrated accountable care organization, ClubMD. An accountable care organization is a network of healthcare groups, including doctors, hospitals, clinics and insurance carriers that collectively share responsibility for providing care to patients.

BSO’s production efforts consisted of a number of projects involving application development, information process flow design, data management, IT network development, health systems integration, and centralized communications, just to name a few.

CMD’s numerous disparate systems, consisting of Third-Party Administrator (TPA) systems, Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), required BSO to engineer and integrate each system into a central data repository and business decision tool using HL7, XML and TXT data feeds.

BSO also delivered CMD’s day-to-day IT support services for the company’s helpdesk, desktop, server, and infrastructure environments.

“BSO was instrumental in CMD’s successful development and growth. By providing the genetic material of the CMD technology platform, BSO was able to facilitate CMD’s rapid expansion into the Lexington and Bowling Green markets, while delivering the capacity to quickly expand into additional Kentucky markets”, says Jim C. Jarrells, BSO co-founder and vice-president of IT.

BSO is a client-focused company specializing in providing business and technology solutions for SMB’s and healthcare organizations. BSO’s teams of experts have been offering a combination of health and technology-driven solutions for over 20 years. It’s unique – “one throat to choke” - full-service approach provides clients with innovative products and services for managing health information and business IT. As Kentucky’s exclusive Netsuite ® partner, BSO can provide full-featured financials / accounting, CRM, inventory, fulfillment and ecommerce software – all in a single system.

As Kentucky’s exclusive Netsuite solutions partner, BSO is proud to announce Netsuite as the world’s number one cloud ERP solution.

It’s official! NetSuite is now recognized as the world’s #1 cloud ERP by every measure – market share, growth, and now technology leadership. Just last month Gartner named NetSuite as the world’s most deployed cloud ERP by market share, and the fastest growing top 10 financial system in North America, UK, and Australia.

Now the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), a 26-year old industry body devoted to software innovation and technology, recognizes NetSuite’s technology leadership at its annual CODiE awards by naming NetSuite OneWorld as the Best Financial Management Solution.

THE FACTS
• NetSuite OneWorld Wins Best Financial Management CODiE award: NetSuite beat out SAP Business ByDesign, FinancialForce and Intacct to win the industry’s most prestigious technology leadership award for financial management applications.
• Rigorous process: Winning an SIIA CODiE (one of the industry’s most prestigious awards) requires detailed scrutiny by experienced judges and peers. It includes passing 48 review criteria across a series of 10 primary attributes including delivery/implementation, user interface and usability, technology, support, ease of management and much more. SIIA’s full review criteria can be found here. Their review process requires the evaluation of detailed product information and customer success, a comprehensive product demonstration, a detailed Q&A by seasoned judges, and an extensive peer voting process.
• Comprehensive recognition: Additionally, NetSuite was also recognized as one of just 5 finalists for Best PSA Solution, Best SCM Solution, Best Cloud Infrastructure and Best Cloud Platform – even more recognition across its suite of products.
• A track record of technology leadership: This recognition by the SIIA comes after being broadly recognized in 2010 with SIIA CODiE awards for Best Business Software, Best Relationship Management, and Best Cloud Infrastructure.

LEXINGTON, KY., November 22, 2010 – Business Solutions Organization, LLC (BSO) announced today that it has surpassed annual expectations and, as end of year is approaching, is celebrating over 350% organizational growth.

Founded in March 2009, the Lexington-based startup company began providing Business and Information Technology solutions to its clients in Central Kentucky. Over the past year, BSO has exceeded expansion forecasts which now include clients throughout Kentucky, Florida and Colorado.

“Our ‘One Throat to Choke’ philosophy appears to be taking hold”, cites Jim C. Jarrells, Co-founder and Executive Vice-President. “One Throat” represents our capacity to offer businesses a consolidated mix of both business management and IT solutions with only one phone call”. “Employing BSO to remove the everyday “noise” from their organizations, our clients are able to focus strictly on their core business.”

BSO’s primary market vertical began with and continues to be small healthcare providers. However, BSO has been able to target and expand into new markets. “We were quick to realize our success when we began receiving calls from Florida and Colorado”, says Joe Claytor, Co-founder and Company President. “We knew we had a winning combination when we partnered with Yellowbird Technology back in August.” “We’re grateful to our clients for trusting us with their business in an economy that has seen more than its share of stress.”

As 2010 comes to an end, BSO has set its aim high and expects 2011 to be another exciting year.

With expertise in cloud-based technologies, BSO provides integrated medical and business management solutions with the support of its integration partners such as NetSuite© and Microsoft©.

To some, data integrity may seem like a boring topic, to others it may be a reminder of one of their worst nightmares.

In today’s high-technology world, it is inevitable that companies will find themselves needing to integrate data for a variety of reasons including system upgrades or conversions and internal/external data sharing. While the integration process can be time consuming and frustrating, it doesn’t have to be a nightmare. While working at BSO, I have learned new techniques that make the data integration process smoother. Some of these processes are internal to our organization, such as developing code that allows various systems to interact with each other. Others are external, such as taking preventative measures to insure that the data is “good” data. For example, creating and implementing processes and procedures to track the entry of data and force accountability for errors. This helps increase the degree of accuracy and consistency by minimizing human error.

Data integrity and integration are an important part of any business because a company’s data serves as the backbone of the company. How it is used, how it is accessed, and how it is shared can greatly affect a company’s performance and success. BSO uses its experience and resources to take the “nightmare” out of data integration, whether it’s a simple conversion or the development of management tools that can interact with each other. Problems are scary, solutions don’t have to be.

While earning my Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, and programming in professional environments since August 2006, I have worked with a variety of computer applications, programming languages, and storage engines. The majority of my development experience is creating Windows/Web applications with a Microsoft SQL back end.

During the first couple years of professional development, I created the databases as
usual, and then created the stored procedures that would handle the select/insert/update/delete operations. And after creating those, I’d write the C# or VB .NET code that would call those stored procedures. While not a necessarily difficult process, it did prove time consuming.

With the release of version 3.5 of the .NET Framework, Microsoft added a component that took most of the previously mentioned steps out of the picture. And that component is called Language Integrated Query (LINQ, pronounced “link”). LINQ is basically a set of standard query operators (in the native .NET programming languages) that can be used to interface directly with a number of different data sources. It supports all standard query operators that you’d find in other query languages (like T-SQL) and other specialized operators.

For me, LINQ has greatly reduced development time. I still have to manually design my databases, but I no longer have to create the stored procedures and code functions to handle the simple CRUD (create, read, update, delete) operations. All I have to do is add a .DBML file to my project, connect it to my database, and add the tables for which I need code classes generated.

And LINQ is not limited to just interfacing with database engines. There are a number of different LINQ providers. Here are a few examples:

1.LINQ to Objects – The LINQ to Objects provider is used for querying in-memory collections, using the local query execution engine of LINQ. The code generated by this provider refers to the implementation of the standard query operators as defined on the Sequence pattern and allows IEnumerable<T> collections to be queried locally. Current implementation of LINQ to Objects uses e.g. O(n) linear search for simple lookups, and is not optimised for complex queries.
2.LINQ to XML – The LINQ to XML provider converts an XML document to a collection of XElement objects, which are then queried against using the local execution engine that is provided as a part of the implementation of the standard query operator.
3. LINQ to DataSets – LINQ also includes the LINQ to DataSets, which uses ADO.NET to handle the communication with the database. Once the data is in ADO.NET Datasets, LINQ to DataSets execute queries against these datasets.

There are several other benefits to using LINQ.

1. It provides a common syntax for all data, so once you get used to the syntax you can use it with any provider.

2. It provides strongly typed code for your objects. This way, your compiler can find errors earlier in the development lifecycle.

3. LINQ makes it easier to transform data into objects by reducing the amount of work you must do to translate between object-oriented code and data paradigms.

Despite all the benefits, I have noticed some drawbacks of LINQ. When you start getting into more large-scale querying, the difficulty of writing the LINQ query is much higher than writing a stored procedure. Also, stored procedures (especially complex ones) still tend to have higher performance.

Microsoft offers several different versions of a team productivity and collaboration tool dubbed SharePoint Services or simply “SharePoint”. This article focuses specifically on version 3.0 of this product which the Business Solutions Organization utilizes for internal communications. A general overview of Sharepoint services is available from Microsoft at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/sharepoint/bb684453.aspx.

Whether the communications consist of news press releases, internal company documentation and both inter and intra-departmental sharing of information, Microsoft provides an industry standard foundation for company communications with its SharePoint Services.

In a nutshell SharePoint is a platform for building a company Intranet. Whether designing a simple internal website for news bulletins or an enterprise level content management system – Sharepoint offers a flexible framework which is scalable to the most complicated corporate scenarios.

While several newer versions of Sharepoint 2010 are available with additional costs and licensing requirements – Sharepoint Services 3.0 is included as an optional Windows Component for the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 family of Operating Systems. All necessary components for Sharepoint 3.0 can be easily downloaded, installed and configured to any properly licensed Microsoft Server running 2003 or 2008 software.

This article is for those IT professionals like myself that work in the health care industry, that have not experienced HL7. Industry standard will show you that HL7 is a must when dealing with patient information. Due to HIPPA requirements HL7 is important to post patient information between multiple systems in a secure environment. In the data driven world that we as a society live in the need to keep data consistent and secure between multiple systems is growing. As a developer for the BSO, the technology of HL7 is very important for our health care customer(s). This type of technology is important to keep up to date so our health care customer(s) can provide adequate care to their patients/clients.

When beginning to look at HL7 documentation you’ll see that to the untrained developer it’s just a pipe delimited file. But to someone who has to deal with HL7 on a daily basis it means much more than that. When beginning to learn about the technology behind HL7 you’ll come to understand that each system you need to integrate with has different requirements and the data integration to those interfaces are handed differently. Each field in HL7 is important to the consistency of data for the patient, if fields are not passed to the interface correctly the potential to create “phantom records” increases dramatically. With my experience “phantom records” is the most crucial part for working with HL7, and defining the UIDs (unique identifiers) for each patient/client is the most important part when defining your HL7 messages between health care systems. When “phantom records” are created it creates two/or more records for a particular patient in the interfacing system. This can create a tremendous amount of data drilling/mining/checking on the clinicians to make sure the data that came over the HL7 post was valid. In the chance that data did not come across correctly could increase the chance that may potentially hinder patient care, due to the inconsistent data that was posted.

When HL7 is sent to different systems, in most cases, it’s sent using IP and port, which through network traffic on the network of the health care provider is relatively secure. When trying to get a grip on how to write/modify/read HL7 most interfaces will provide documentation, this is the central point or “bible” for you during the process of integrating two interfaces. Without diligent documentation from the interface provider integrating into the interface would be a painful nightmare. Each field in the HL7 segment is important, and each field has the potential to save a lot of time on the clinician’s behalf. Also with HL7 the messages can also be sent real-time with no need to have a process that runs nightly or during a scheduled task on a predefined interval. This can greatly speed up the efficiency and care of the patient/client.

In my experiences with HL7, it’s been a tremendous challenge, but I really do enjoy providing integration between multiple systems, and seeing the happiness on the clinicians faces of surprise and excitement when they realize they do not have to spend time to input the patients/client data into their health care system(s).
